Subject This article discusses the problems of development of transport infrastructure of rural territories. Objectives The article aims to develop and substantiate the priority directions of rural areas development on the basis of the analysis of road and transport infrastructure at the federal and regional levels. Methods For the study, I used methods of analysis and synthesis, comparative and logical analysis methods, and the monographical method. The Federal State Statistics Service data were used for comparison of transport infrastructure indices. Conclusions In all regions of the Central Federal District, including the Orel oblast, the key problem is the construction of country roads close to the roads of regional importance. This requires effective implementation of existing rural development programs.
