Subject The paper focuses on the integrated social, economic and environmental indicators of life of the population of the Pskov oblast that characterize the level of transition to sustainable development of the area. Objectives The paper aims to assess the environmental and economic resource potential of the Pskov oblast and calculate and analyze the indicators of sustainable development of the Pskov oblast to justify its transition to sustainable development. Methods For the study, I used analytical, graphical, inductive, statistical and economic methods, as well as aggregation, comparison, and the calculation and constructive method. Results I have identified and calculated eleven sustainable development indicators for the Pskov oblast, as well as one aggregate human development index for 2010–2015. The indicators can contribute to establishing a program (model) for the transition to sustainable development of the oblast. Conclusions The Pskov oblast has really good prospects and vast natural and resource potential for the transition to sustainable development, but there is a contradiction between the potential wealth and the poverty of the population.
