Importance The research focuses in processes of the State control over socio-economic development of the Russian regions.
Objectives We outline proposals for improving the governmental control over regional development in Russia at the current stage of development.
Methods The research relies upon methods of logic, comparative and statistical analysis.
Results The article highlights principal issues, which influence trends in the regional development in the Russian Federation. The effective policy of the State for regional development regulation should be a cornerstone for resolving this issue. We proposed our recommendations to improve the regional policies of Russia. In our opinion, successful socio-economic development of the Russian regions requires to undertake a set of special measures.
Conclusions and Relevance The socio-economic development of the Russian regions is a very current and topical issues, with its possible solutions being very disputable. Hence, the subject should be further investigated assuming that any conclusions and recommendations are not final and firm. However, some of the conclusions can be used for scientific and practical purposes.
