Subject The article deals with the issues of development of methodological tools of evaluation of effectiveness growth factors using the timber industry complex of the Russian Federation as a case study.
Objectives The paper aims to locate the timber industry in the domestic economy, analyze the existing research on effectiveness evaluation and identification of growth factors of industry, and highlight the major causes for successful development of the complex.
Methods The paper proposes a methodological approach based on the analysis of available data of financial statements together with the materials of the Federal State Statistics Service of the Russian Federation. Methodological research tools include economic-mathematical methods of processing of statistical data, interviews with representatives of businesses and professionals from government departments and agencies.
Results I found that various factors including investment, financial, infrastructure and factor competitiveness have the greatest impact on improving the efficiency of the timber processing complex of the Komi Republic. The revealed varying degrees of the impact of these factors on the effectiveness of the functioning of individual groups of enterprises should be taken into account when developing certain Government support measures.
Conclusions The results obtained permit to use a methodological approach that takes into account the particularities of the enterprises, to study the development of the industry of the Russian Federation and evaluate the growth factors of its effectiveness in addition to traditional methods. However, inadequate data in enterprises' financial statements and accounting, and limited experience with software analysis packages may be some limitations to perform such research.
