Importance The Russian North Eastern is a region of blow of dependence of demographic processes on the intensity of migration of the population. The relevance of studying the impact of migratory flows on marriage and divorce and the specific features of the marriage fragility coefficient increases in the face of adverse demographic dynamics in the northern regions.
Objectives The paper aims to study the interrelationship of the population flows range and directions and changes in mating behavior of the population of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) for 1960–2014, and individual territories during their intensive development. As well it aims to divide the migration activity into periods and group the areas by nature and magnitude of change of the factor of instability of marriages.
Methods For the study, we used methods of typology and correlation analysis and the analysis of variation series of marriage and divorce rates, in-and out-migration by time and territory.
Results The analysis reveals a high relationship between the flows of in-migration and registered marriages, and out-migration and divorces, especially strong in the areas of new economic development. This is confirmed by the high values of Pearson correlation coefficient. The periodization of the level of migration activity and accounting for the proportion of rural population helped identify typological groups of areas according to the change factor of instability of marriages.
Conclusions The paper shows that in areas with a predominantly urban population, the growth of instability of marriages had been observed until the 1970s, and in rural areas, these trends have become evident only at the beginning of the 21st century. We conclude that the differentiation of the factor of instability of marriages in areas with the prevalence of rural population is highly dependent on the migration trends of population, the essence of which is the transition from predominantly rural-rural movements to rural-urban ones.
