Subject The article analyzes the level of provision of the population of the Republic of Bashkortostan with fruits and berries at the expense of own production and development of the activities to enhance import substitution of horticultural products.
Objectives The purpose of the study is to evaluate the state of the art of horticulture in the region and development of recommendations for its further development.
Methods We used a systems approach as the basic methodological technique.
Results We identified the tendencies and regularities of horticulture; determined the directions of its development, taking into account the implementation of the recommended actions. As well we found the level of provision of the studied region with fruits and berries at the expense of the in-house production in the near future.
Conclusions The main reasons for the substantial decline of horticulture in the country and its regions and products import growth are the financial volatility, low investment attractiveness of agricultural producers, the disparity in the prices of agricultural and industrial products, and insufficient State support.
