Subject The article deals with the problems of development of the productive sectors of the economy of the North Caucasian Federal District regions, the acute problems of which are reducing and gradual overcoming of subsiding. Objectives The paper aims to analyze the main socio-economic indicators of development of the regional economy and identify the characteristics and trends of these indicators in comparison with the targets of socio-economic development of the region. Methods We used the method of comparative analysis based on official statistics and our assessments, as well as statistical methods . Results We found that in the Russian Federation and North Caucasian Federal District, there is a unidirectional upward trend of the gap between the growth of industrial and agricultural products in favor of industry. We determined that in the Republic of Dagestan, there is a different situation: the growth rate of industrial production lags behind the growth of the gross regional product and agriculture. Conclusions and Relevance The conflicting results of correlations and trends in the development of industry and agriculture in the country as a whole, the Federal District and the Republic of Dagestan indicate the absence of a clearly coordinated economic policy of federal and regional bodies. The analysis findings can be used by Republican authorities as a tool when designing strategies and programs for socio-economic development of the region.
