Subject The article dwells on the RF Government's planning to start issuing free plots of 1 ha to the RF residents, which may be registered as smallholdings. Objectives The paper aims to determine the activities, which the recipients of land would like to do on their plots. Methods As a research method, I used sociological survey, the results of which I processed by calculating the arithmetic mean value and determining the majority opinion. Results As a result of the study, I defined a wide range of interests and preferences of citizens on possible further use of the received plots of land. Conclusions The study shows that the alleged use, living on the plot of land, and the way to generate income, working in cities, affect the revealed preferences of respondents by location of the plot near the largest cities.
