Subject The article provides a study on the transformation of the territorial structure of productive forces.
Objectives The paper aims to analyze the most obvious transformations in the structure of the distribution of productive forces in the Ural region, a traditionally industrial macro-region, and to identify vectors of their spatial development in new conditions of post-industrial economy.
Methods For the study, we used an analysis of statistical outputs, indicators of specialization and production localization, data on the formation and distribution of industrial and trade links of the largest enterprises, as well as schemes and projects offering new forms of productive forces.
Results The study shows that agglomerations, not established de jure, but which are units of concentration and interaction of production capacities, infrastructure, information and manpower de facto, are the powerful catalysts for the development of productive forces in the Ural region.
Conclusions and Relevance We conclude that the development of interregional cooperation is essential for long-term development and distribution of productive forces in the macro-region when moving to a new technological level. The outcome of the study will be useful to the Government and regional governments when developing the regional industrial policy.
