Importance The article identifies the key areas for improvement in the activities of the trading retail chains in times of crisis. It indicates the issue of improving a communication policy between the right holder and the user of a set of exclusive rights in situations of instability.
Objectives The paper's goal is to develop recommendations for the management of the franchise system in conditions of instability.
Methods I used methods of comparative and statistical analyses, and the expert method to determine the perspective directions of development of franchise systems.
Results I define the main features of the development of the market of overseas franchises, formulate the features of the new franchises, and present my own evaluation of the directions of development of the market of franchises in 2015–2017.
Relevance The results of the study and proposals can be used by regional businessmen and rights holders when deciding on improving working conditions for the commercial concession contract, as well as serve as a base for further research of the development of franchise relations in Russia.
