Importance The article considers the problems and prospects of integrated development of the Republic of Buryatia, Zabaykalsky Krai, and Irkutsk oblast, adjacent to the Baikal-Amur Mainline.
     Objectives The paper aims to develop possible directions and mechanisms of the development of the Northern Baikal region.
     Methods For the study, we used a comparative analysis.
     Results We have developed certain directions and mechanisms of the development of the Northern Baikal region; in particular, we offer the most preferable options providing electricity to new customers in areas of prospective mining and mineral processing.
     Conclusions and Relevance We conclude that for the effective development of the North of the Baikal region, an integrated approach is required, involving the interaction of the executive authorities of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Buryatia and Zabaykalsky Krai, businesses, local authorities, and public.
