Importance The article reveals the genesis of the concept of sustainable development of economic systems of different hierarchical levels.
Objectives The paper aims to extend theoretical and methodological provisions of the sustainable development of economic entities of different hierarchical levels and to substantiate the possibility of existence of the invariant characterizing the sustainable development.
Methods To analyze the concept of sustainable development and the formation of the concept of sustainable development of economic systems we used historical and logical approaches.
Results We put forward and substantiated the hypotheses of implementation of the concept of sustainable development. We proved the possibility of the existence of invariant that characterizes the sustainable development. We show that the momentum to implement the concept of sustainable development at the meso-and micro-levels is the integrated reporting.
Conclusions and Relevance We conclude that to ensure the sustainability of the economic systems of various hierarchical levels, it is required to form a system of indicators-parameters and thresholds that take into account the balance between the three dimensions of sustainable development, i.e. economic, social and environmental ones, in the framework of integrated reporting.
