Importance The article discusses the investment and innovative development of the economy of the agricultural sector of the Russian Federation in the conditions of its membership in the World Trade Organization. Objectives The paper aims to identify trends and prerequisites of investment and innovative development of the agrarian sector of the region in modern condition and specify the role of investment in fixed assets in the context of the Russian Federation's membership in the World Trade Organization. Methods For the study, we used methods of multivariate analysis. Results We defined characteristics and the role of innovation in the agricultural sector of the economy. We propose certain ways to increase the investment activity in the sphere of agro-industrial complex. Conclusions and Relevance It is necessary to develop investment and innovation in the agricultural sector on the basis of public-private partnership principles. Regional agricultural-technology transfer centers and venture capital funds are capable to intensify the development of the agrarian sector in the region. The results of the study can be used by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Stavropol Krai to compile rankings of investment attractiveness in the agrarian sector of the economy.
