Importance The article deals with the issues of innovative development of agriculture. Objectives The paper aims to justify the provisions to improve the assessment of the level of innovative development of agriculture of the Russian Federation. Methods Works ofdomestic and foreign scientists in the field of management of innovation processes in agriculture served as a methodological basis of the research. The research process is based on an integrated approach to the subject studied using analytical, graphical, monographic methods, as well as comparative and logical analyses. Results In the course of work, I analyzed the modern foreign and domestic techniques of assessment of innovative development of agriculture and the innovative development key indicators. On the basis of the analysis, I propose certain directions to increase the innovation activity of enterprises of agro-industrial complex in market conditions. Conclusions I conclude about the necessity to develop a methodological framework for the assessment of innovative development of agriculture, including the system of indicators and metrics, as well as the criteria and methods of quantitative analysis.
