Labor productivity in agriculture of the agrarian region: challenges and growth drivers (the Orel oblast case study)

Importance Increasing the agricultural production efficiency is one of the current economic issues, with labor productivity being one of the most critical indicators. Considering the temporary ban on food import from the countries supporting the anti-Russian sanctions, an increase in the agricultural productivity and ensuring the sustainable development become a priority goal.
     Objectives The research analyzes the labor productivity in the agricultural region, determines key factors influencing the labor productivity level, and identifies the main resources for growth in the agricultural labor productivity.
     Methods To analyze the main indicators of using manpower in agriculture of the Orel oblast, I applied econometric methods, i.e. time series analysis and relevant forecast, multiple-factor correlation, and regression modeling.
     Results I project the level of labor productivity assuming that the main types of products (grain, milk) are manufactured in the short run. The research also found the main factors influencing the labor productivity in the region. The article presents a point and interval forecast of labor productivity indicators in question.
     Conclusions and Relevance The agricultural sector of the Orel oblast has considerable resources for growth in labor productivity in terms of capital to labor ratio, payroll, professional level and qualification of employees. The outcome of the research can be used by any agricultural entity when planning its production and business processes and preparing activities for making the region's agricultural production more efficient.
