The innovative strategy for developing food production enterprises of Russia

Importance Currently, innovations becomes a key driver of development and ensuring the competitiveness of food production enterprises at the macro- and microlevel. The article discusses experience in implementing and developing innovation, issues of managing innovative activities and areas for developing the most common types of innovation, and practice of implementing it in food production enterprises.
     Objectives The objective of the research is to define the development strategy of food industry enterprises on the basis of the application of different types of innovation. The research pursues analyzing the innovative development of food production enterprises of the Russian Federation.
     Methods The methodological framework of the research comprises the theory, methodology and methods presented in foreign and national scholars' proceedings on innovation management, and analytical materials on innovative development of the food industry in Russia and abroad. The research relies upon general scientific methods for studying economic phenomena and processes, i.e. analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, structural systematization.
     Results The article emphasizes the main issues impeding innovative development of food production enterprises: lack of agricultural raw materials, high physical wear and tear and obsolescence of technological equipment, low competitiveness of the Russian food production enterprises in the external food market, insufficient development of logistics of food production enterprises' products.
     Conclusions and Relevance As the research shows, the innovative strategy of food production enterprises is intended to renovate products, change technologies, develop and implement new recipes of products, increase its sell-by date, use new packing materials etc.
