Improvement of the methodology for calculation of the human development index as an indicator of the quality of life of population

Importance The article considers the quality of life of the population of the Russian Federation, as one of the most important socio-economic categories, reflecting the combination of people's everyday life parameters.
     Objectives The paper aims to show the practical use of the human development index as an indicator of the quality of life of the population of the Russian Federation.
     Methods For the study, we used logical, causal, comparative and system analyses.
     Results We prove that the diversity of the quality-of-life characteristics determines a particular approach to assess the need for the use of indicators that include a wide variety of data sets. We note that in recent years there are stable results by all kinds of human development indicators in Russia. The educational level index is stable, and it allows Russia to be in the group of countries with a high level of human development.
     Conclusions and Relevance We conclude that the human development index is now an important tool for monitoring the system of indicators of human development in the long-term period.
