Importance The article discusses the methodological aspects of assessment of the investment attractiveness of the Russian Federation. The paper analyzes the investment activity in Russia using a case study of the Pskov oblast. Objectives The paper aims to assess the investment attractiveness of the Russian Federation, the RF individual subjects, and the Pskov oblast, in particular. Methods For the study, I used statistical methods, quantitative criteria for the evaluation and SWOT analysis of the Pskov oblast. Results I propose certain ways to increase the investment attractiveness of the Pskov oblast, including ecological tourism development by maximizing the use of natural resources, development of the agricultural sector through innovation and input of unused agricultural land, development of the industry by reducing the cost of the finished product. Conclusions and Relevance My conclusion is that to pull the region out of the doldrums, it is necessary to improve the regulatory frameworks and investment infrastructure, upgrade the facilities, raise the profitability and competitiveness of goods and services, to expand the versatility of the leading enterprises, improve the skills and professionalism of the personnel, as well as the level of mechanization and automation of production lines. All this taken together will help create a favorable investment environment and ensure the inflow of investments in the oblast.
