Importance The article discusses the problems of increased competition in the hotel market, associated with a complex geopolitical situation, which causes the decrease in inbound tourist traffic, with the sanctions and ruble's decline.
Objectives The purpose of the paper is to identify the latest trends and the ways of development of the hotel business in the Russian Federation.
Methods In the work, I used the methods of system approach, economic and statistical analyses of quantitative and qualitative research.
Results The paper compares the indicators corresponding to the loading of hotels, the average price and yield of the rooms by segment of the hotel market. It shows the tendencies and perspectives of opening new hotels and analyzes the dynamics of inbound tourist flow in the Russian Federation. I have investigated the environmental factors that have the greatest influence on the development of the hotel business, and I give my own evaluation of the influence's degree.
Conclusions and Relevance I conclude that in these circumstances, the only way to success and development of the hotel business is to improve the quality of service and flexibility to meet the rapidly changing needs of the visitors.

Keywords: hotel business, loading, number of rooms, tourist's stream, average price, profitability, attractiveness, hotel market
