Importance The article studies the refractory industry and the financial results of activities of some certain refractory enterprises of the Sverdlovsk region. Objectives The purpose of the article is to provide qualitative characteristics of financial condition of the refractory industry and identify development trends based on the available public information. Methods To analyze the production and financial condition of the refractory industry of the Sverdlovsk region, we used mathematical (approximation) and financial (temporal, vertical, factor analysis, analysis of the relative performance) methods. Results The hypothesis on the reduction of volumes of refractory products manufacture caused by the reduction of steel and iron production of metallurgical enterprises of the Sverdlovsk region was refuted by the analysis. Using a profitability ratios analysis allowed the identification of the company actively engaged in activities to reduce production cost. Conclusions and Relevance We concluded that the experience of enterprises within the refractory industry is to ensure the competitiveness of the industry, and the use of public and private methods to support the development of the industry is necessary as well.
