Labor resources of the Nizhny Novgorod region: specific features and growth drivers

Importance The research deals with the relations in the field of labor resources, which are essential in the economy of any country, and which determine its development. At the same time, it was determined that accurate and precise information on labor population is required for an objective assessment of the socio-economic development of the country and for its separate regions. Besides, labor market information is an essential instrument when developing the State's economic and social policy.
     Objectives The research aims to evaluate the status and dynamics of the labor resources, their structures and factors of the Russian Federation largest industrial region - the Nizhny Novgorod region.
     Methods The research was conducted using statistical methods to assess the phenomena and processes, including the methods of structural analysis, time series analysis, comparative analysis, and identifying the development trends and development factors based on moving averages. As the source data, we used the official websites of the Federal State Statistics Service (FSSS), the FSSS territorial authority in the Nizhny Novgorod region, the Nizhny Novgorod region Government, the State Employment Service of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
     Results We have compiled analysis findings such as analytical tables and came to a conclusion that reflects the status and trends of the region's labor force resources, and also determined the measures of the State regulation and development factors.
     Conclusions and Relevance The study concludes that the proactive stand of the Government of Nizhny Novgorod on the issue of qualitative improvement of human resources, enhancing of employment is aimed at ensuring the successful development of the Nizhny Novgorod region, and improving the well-being of the residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The featured materials can be used when formulating recommendations and mechanisms to increase employment and reduce unemployment, preparing lectures and presentations on socio-economic development of the region, as well as will be of interest for potential counterparties of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
