Importance The subject of the article covers the condition and problems of the development of housing and communal services of the Russian Federation. Objectives The study was conducted in order to identify the key trends in the condition of the housing and communal services of the Russian Federation. Methods In the research, I used the method of structuring, as well as a logical analysis, cause-consequence analysis, comparative and dynamic analyses. As a result of the comparative analysis of the level of improvement of housing in different countries, I found that the Russian residential properties are lagging behind in fitting with the various sanitary wares. With regard to the availability of running water, wastewater disposal and centralized heat supply in the residential accommodation they assume an average value rating at the global level. Besides, I consider that the share of housing and communal services in the structure of household consumption expenditure in Russia is not sufficient as compared with the leading countries of the world. The investigation of the state of the Russian housing and communal services at the national level was carried out in relation to the availability, degree of wear and tear, degree of an interchangeability of fixed assets of organizations of housing and communal services. Results The obtained results in conjunction with the analysis of dynamics of change of volumes of the services provided, has allowed me to formulate a number of problematic trends, which are specific to the current level of the condition and development of housing and public utility services in the Russian Federation. Application Researchers may use the results of the article in similar studies also for training purposes by virtue of housing and communal services in the development of measures on improvement of their activities, as well as the results may be used by the public bodies in the process of formation of regional and industry development programs. Conclusions and Relevance In the conclusion, I emphasize that the identified trends should serve as the basis for the further industry reform and adjustment of ongoing events.
