The instability of the world economic situation of the recent years shows a number of problems encountered in the implementation of economic policy. Despite the fact that there are many scientists and scientific organizations studying economic policy challenges, currently there is no unity in the notion of what constitutes economic policy, what place it takes in economic science. Also, there is no consensus on the content, structure, tools and methods of economic policy. This article discusses the implementation of an effective industrial policy at a regional level. The author proposes certain tools to assess the competitiveness of industries based on the methods of strategic management.
