The subject of research is the socio-economic relationships that define the processes and patterns of sustainable regional development. The purpose of the article is to support the impact of civil society on regional development strategy. A systematic approach and method of dialectical cognition, which examine the patterns and processes of development of civil society institutions and implementation of the strategy for sustainable regional development in the relationship and codependence, are the methodological basis of the study. As a result of the research, the author compiled and offered theoretical approaches that define the essence of the influence of civil society on the effectiveness of the implementation of the strategy for sustainable regional development. As well, the author identified and analyzed the peculiarities of the institutions of civil society, the dependence of the results of the regional sustainable development strategy implementation on the informed participation of the population and the existence of appropriate institutional mechanisms for the administration of the territory. The author also estimated the economic role of Government in ensuring the sustainability of regional development. The science-based advice and suggestions put forward by the author can be applied to the legislative and executive authorities in socio-economic projects and programs aimed at sustainable regional development. The author concludes that the implementation of the strategy for sustainable regional development is possible only under creation of conditions for dynamic social and economic development based on maximum use of civil initiative, taking account of their best interests. Only on the principles of collaboration and partnership between civil society, local governments and public authorities the achievement of strategic and tactical objectives of the regional sustainable development strategy implementation is feasible.
