The article investigates the reasons for multilateral cooperation slowdown in Eastern Europe within the framework of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance by the end of 1980's. The author examines the process of transition of these countries' agricultural sector to market relations. The author comes to a conclusion that in all the Eastern Europe and CIS countries agrarian reformation was accompanied by considerable reduction of agricultural production, which was conditioned by the overall negative economic situation: break of external economic links, drop in population's incomes, etc.

Keywords: transformation, agriculture, agro-industrial complex, market relations, reform
