The article presents a comparative assessment of the main indicators of quality of life in the Magadan region, regions of the Far East Federal District and the Russian Federation. The detailed analysis and comparison of indicators with the level of 1990 debunk the myth of a high standard of living in the region and explain the causes of mass exodus. The authors propose areas for action to improve the situation and the achievement of the targets established in relevant government documents.
