The article notes the actuality of development of a regional real economy sector in the conditions of crisis in the world community. The industrial, production and innovation capacity of the Orenburg region is the subject of the research conducted by means of statistical methods. The conclusion states that the available potential of the Orenburg area has a number of perspective directions to develop, including the project of a special economic zone (SEZ). However, all this is possible in condition of cooperation of the government bodies with the scientific, educational, industrial and production economy sectors.
