The article deals with the main characteristic features of economic and social situation of the Ul’ianovsk region. Virtues and shortcomings of the region, in particular concern the migration policy and business. The region’s potential analyzed, permits to bring up some certain proposals on the development of the social and economic spheres of the Ul’ianovsk region.
