Social economic significance and role development of tourism in Azerbaijan

In the article the sphere of tourism and its influence on social and economic development of the country is considered. Backwardness of infrastructure and lack of professional shots is noted. Azerbaijan possesses considerable tourist potential but, at present, uses only 1/10 part of it. At present only 5% of the population take part in the tourism business. It is pointed out, that the significant obstacle in the way of large project realization for the tourism branch is the absence of a single strategy and program for tourism development. The state programs are accepted, various obstacles lead to the decreasing of effectiveness of investment activity in the tourism sphere. The conclusion is given that development of tourism has good prospects and can play an important role in social and economic development of the country.
