In the present article the research of the industrial specialization of the large agro-industrial region of the South of Russia – the Rostov region are considered. The industrial complexes, which are historically forming as leading «locomotives» of economic development of the region, are defined and diagnosed; including the assessment of potential and prospects of their development in reconstructive post-crisis growth is carried out.
