The quality of economic growth requires not only increased wealth but also a satisfactory state of the environment. The current structure of Russia's economy is such that the growth of its branches will inevitably worsen the environmental situation, and the level of costs for environmental remediation is significantly lower than in developed countries. Most vulnerable to the impact of economic growth on the environment are the Urals, Siberian and North Western regions with a high proportion of their manufacturing sectors. What are the prospects of ecological situation in Russia, and what should be done to change current trends - the author tries to show by means of econometric model.

Keywords: economic growth, costs of environmental protection, air emissions, water pollutionб regions of Russia
