The traditional Russian form of collective gardening (dacha) is in the focus of attention of agrarian policy in recent time. The history and genesis gardening associations is presented. The social and economic role of collective gardening and other forms of agricultural associations of citizens (dacha, vegetable gardening, livestock breeding) is provided based on analysis of agricultural census data. The regional features of such associations are presented. The estimation of the commercial, consumer and recreational mining is made, and problems of future development are shown.
