The article is devoted to problems of development of human potential of the regions in the conditions of modern market transformations of the economy. The analysis is based on the human development index and its main indicators. In the present article it is given particular attention the inter-regional differentiation of incomes of the population, life expectancy, indicators of literacy and education level of the population and their influence on the level and quality of life
