On the basis of analysis of innovation activity intensity and extensity indices the author defines the promising technology platforms which correspond to specialization of the regions of the South Federal District and explains the trends of technology development generating demand for innovation. The author further defines the prerequisites for creation of technology platforms in the South Federal District which allow to fulfill innovation potential.
