Assessment of tourist resources is an important step towards their classification. In modern Russian conditions a unified approach to solving the problems of assessment has not yet formed. Moreover, quite often mutually exclusive methods can be used. The paper is devoted to classification of traditional approaches to evaluation of tourist resources, identification of their characteristics and purposes, analysis of the evaluation process essence. Some recommendations to improve the efficiency of the process were made.
