In presented article the author investigates the basic directions and methodological approaches in the theory of regional economy in the developed western countries. In article are analyzed approaches to problems of regional development within the limits of the basic directions and methodological concepts of the regional theory, taxonomic levels of research and sights of scientists which have brought the greatest contribution to development of theoretical concepts of a regional science.
