The typology of the regions and its use in the regional planning.

The article is devoted to the problem of the regions’ typology development for the purpose of the strategic planning improvement. The method which allows defining the type of the region is shown. This method permits to define the goals of the socio – economic development of the region more valid taking into account the starting level of its development. With the help of this method the fact of belonging of the regions of the Russian Federation to different types is defined. The peculiarities of the regions of the defined types are underlined. The approaches to the formation of the strategies of their development are offered.
