Creation of the North Caucasus Federal District was dictated in a less degree by economic conditions rather than political-administrative. Whole range of socio-economic problems of the region can not be resolved mechanically by detachment of problematic regions. The most promising path is to amalgamate subjects towards financial-economic integration, self-identification, and mobilization of inherent resources.
