The prosperity of Russian regions hugely depends on the efficiency of the banking system which regulates money flows in the economy. The article looks at the current state of the banking system in Nizhny Novgorod region. The authors stress the premium role of regional banks in a situation of the global crisis. They also consider factors which contribute to stability of regional banks in a stressful environment.
