Problems of ferrous metallurgy during crisis are considered and its consequences. Ways of an output from crisis and prospects of development of branch during the postcrisis period are shown. As one of perspective directions of development of branch proves development of resources of iron ore in the east of the country and creation of new base of ferrous metallurgy.
