In Russia there are a lot of areas, isolated from centralized power supply and having weak transport relations with industrially-developed countries. The problem of reliable power supply of such regions is very urgent. In the present paper the problems of power supply of hard-to-reach, sparsely populated and remote areas are analyzed. It is shown that in spite of many regulations and programs, practical implementation of power supply projects of such consumers is not sufficient. The paper examines activities for implementation of development and improvement of power supply reliability of hard-to-reach and remote areas by using renewable sources of energy.

Keywords: Isolated regions, local energy sources, power supply problems, renewable energy, sources activities, programs
