Article is devoted studying of the economic nature of wages. The urgency of the given direction of research is connected by that wages as the economic category is difficult and many-sided. It appreciably defines a population standard of living, and also causes social balance of a society and in an end result influences rates and scales of social and economic development of the country. Reduction of the mechanism of the organisation of wages in conformity with carried out market transformations in many respects depends on understanding of the social and economic maintenance of wages, features of its formation, degree of realisation of its motivational function, all-round disclosing of this category.
