The role of typological approach in choising a strategy of development of a macroregion (using the example of the South federal district)

The article examines an important element of contemporary regional policy - a typology of regions according to level of their socio-economic development; thus there are used different approaches according to examining concrete factors characterizing the socio-economic position of regions - subjects of the Russia Federation. We must emphasize one method of classification of regional objects among special groups - clusters which is used in the article; the method is a complicated statistical procedure defining given data to homogeneous groups. The author uses clustering analysis for examining socio-economic position of concrete regions putting together the South federal district of the Russia Federation.
