This study is dedicated to the revealing of influence of structural shifts in the Russian industry on social and economic development of regions of the Far North and the territories equal to them and the characteristic the differentiation of northern regions of Russia on a standard of living and quality of a life of the population. Choosing northern regions as on object of analysis is not a random choice. In spite of the fact that here lives only about 7 % of the population of the country, the industrial sector of the given regions defines country positions in economic, provides a profitable part of the budget and the basic currency receipts.
