Northern small business as an institutional part of economy plays important social and economical roles. In the vast but sparsely populated lands of Yakutia, the small business is a source of increasing regional employment level, makes the economical system more flexible, able to adapt to crisis or depression; stimulates development and implementation of new innovative technologies. Small business as such increases the economy efficiency.
     Research in the North of Yakutia shows that social (stabilising) function of small business in depressed regions is especially important during economical crisisа.
