This study is dedicated to the reveoling of the position of Russia on a current industry world map and characterizing the structural shifts in Russian industry. Choosing Russian industry as on object of analysis is not a random choice. Development of an industrial sector determines the country’s position in the world economy, provides the stability of social and economic development. Industrial production was the most important sector of the Russian economy throughout the whole XX century, and, no doubt, will remain so in the near future, insaite of the fact that the perestroika had a great negative impact on the sector and now it also goes through tough times in conditions of the global financial crisis.
