The article emphasizes the exceptional importance of choosing proper methods of government regulation and stimulation of social and economic development in macroregions and their constituent entities. The study of the current situation with target programs, and social and economic strategies in macroregions (federal districts) of Russia causes the author to suggest certain steps to improve regional policy as well as methods of taking them. Such steps should be taken by the Federal Center.
