The history of the formation of the Altai Krai banking system since the end of the eighties of the twentieth century is described in the article, as well as the reasons and peculiarities of the banking specificity of the region are analyzed. As a result of the research a number of conclusions are made, a range of problems are described and the variant of their solution through the elaboration of the action plan aimed at supporting banking system of the region and stimulating its more balanced development is offered.
