Subject. This article discusses the approaches of MERCOSUR countries to the issue of State regulation of the electricity market. Objectives. The study aims to analyze and compare the indicators of the electricity market of MERCOSUR countries and their approaches to regulating the electricity industry. Methods. For the study, we used methods of systematic approach, and the analysis of legal acts and strategic documents of MERCOSUR countries. Results. The article analyzes statistical data and characteristics of the power systems of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay, as well as the mechanisms of the MERCOSUR energy market. It also identifies a number of differences in the principles of regulation and operation of the countries' energy sectors. Conclusions. There is a significant gap between the regulatory models in each member State of the union. The importance of diversification of electricity generation sources is evident.
