Subject. This article focuses on the development trend of Indonesia's coal industry. Objectives. The study aims to analyze the state of the country's coal industry and assess the market situation. Methods. For the study, I used methods of comparative and content analyses. Results. In 2026, the state of Indonesia's coal industry is uncertain. A significant portion of specialized enterprises does not have production plans for the current year agreed upon with the country's Ministry of Energy. Conclusions. A reduction in Indonesian coal production will lead to a decrease in its export supplies. At the same time, there is a possibility of a coal shortage for thermal power plants, which may negatively affect the cost and volumes of steel, nickel, and alumina production.
